Takano gave a shrug to Vayle's comments on Arrancar. "We don't really know enough about Arrancar to say whether or not those souls are even aware anymore. I mean with Gillian Arrancar, yeah, but those are so rare that it's not even really worth theorizing" Takano would glance over at the statue. "Personally I theorize that the souls have condensed into a single one, all separate but working together for a common purpose. Kind of like cells in a body. At least that's what I hope, I don't really want to see anyone suffering" Takano gave an understanding nod as Vayle explained the weird aura. He understood what it was like to be seen as strange, hell his entire youth had been spent on him being an anomaly to his family. His interests just didn't align with theirs, and he was thusly ostracized for it. Not that Takano really cared about them now, he had much more important things to worry about. The Hirai Family was simply a name to him now and he hoped to keep it that way. Takano would reach into his pocket and remove two coins, flipping one over to Vayle. "They got this tradition over here where you throw a coin in a fountain and make a wish. It's just superstition as far as I can tell, but who knows? Maybe you could wish for an answer to that mystery" He'd give a smirk before flipping his coin into the fountain. After doing so, he'd walk over to a park bench nearby and took a seat. "I wished to visit Hueco Mundo" He'd say as he placed his hands behind his head. Vayle Cameo

Vayle groaned at the thought. the whole idea still didn't really sit right with her, but she knew Takano was right. Hollows were an ongoing, difficult to solve problem for a reason, after all. And if they weren't, she supposed she'd be out of a job. still... As Takano handed her a coin, she turned to regard the man. He definitely spoke like he knew a lot. And... yeah, probably did. Even if he did act like a total doofus. Vayle regarded the coin he'd handed her with all the focus of a woman staring at her first-born child. Could this really give her the answers she was looking for? Was it really all... just that simple? Maybe... Maybe it was. Vayle breathed in slowly, as she threw the coin. She didn't think it could really just magically provide the answers she needed. she didn't know if anyone could, really. But she knew it was worth it to at least give it a shot, y'know? Takano's next statement caused her to grow a wide grin of her own, though. "Visit Hueco mundo? The hollow world? The one with all the white sand and crystallized trees and the moon that always just looks slightly off? And here I thought you were a researcher, not a death-seeker." Vayle would add with a chuckle. "hollows are way stronger there, y'know!" [227 words] Takano Hirai

Leaning forward and placing his head on his hand, Takano would give a sigh. "Yeah, I know. Plus we've got the Arrancar over there to make sure everything is in check, so there's no real reason to send anyone over. But there's just something alluring about it to me. Same with the Hollows themselves. I mean, don't get me wrong I understand that we've got to purify them and everything… it's just I find their life cycle, their powers, social interactions, really everything about them so fascinating. I don't really know why. Maybe it's just cause they're so different to us. Being able to visit their home, studying it to see how they've adapted and such would be quite the research expedition. I might even catch a glimpse of one of them metamorphosize into adjuchas" Takano would give a meek grin before leaning back and crossing his arms. "Though knowing my luck, I'd pop out in front of a Vasto Lorde and get instantly vaporized. Though I think if I did manage to make it there somehow, I'd try heading straight for Los Noches. No idea how the Arrancar would react, given the last guy who went over there with scientific intent kinda ended up enslaving them all. Well, and making them too but that's a whole other debate…" Takano shrugged. "Yeah, I think the knowledge from there far outweighs the risks. At least for me" Slowly the sun would begin to set, lighting up the sky with a rich red. Takano gave a yawn as he stood. "Doesn't seem like there were any Hollows today. Eh, probably for the best. Anything else you're wanting to do before we head back?" Vayle Cameo

Vayle blinked a few times as Takano explained his ideals regarding his research, as well as his interest in the hollows themselves. He was clearly pretty interested in seeing the processes involved in a hollow's stages of evolution, revealing his true interest in them, before admitting his own lack of luck. He really was the kinda guy who'd give it all for science, at the end of the day. It was kind of impressive, though "Suicidal" also rang in her head after listening to his speech. Still...
"Well... I'm not sure if I can totally agree they're different than us." Vayle would respond. "They have different powers, sure, but at the end of the day, they still laugh, cry, snarl, fight... just like a shinigami." Vayle would respond. "They've got the same emotions we do, just twisted to their own fashion, after all. And while they might be naturally more twisted, I've seen plenty of people without a spark of hollow in them manage to be just as bad, if not worse. We're all just humans struggling with the tools given to us, at the end of the day." Vayle would respond. "Though the chains their existence gives them, I'm happy to cut apart."
As Takano said his "eh, probably for the best" line, Vayle raised an eyebrow. "It sorta sounds like you were hoping to see one. and yes, actually... Would'ja be interested in seeing a horror movie?" She'd ask.

Now things were getting a bit too...philosophical for Takano’s tastes. Science has proven that Hollows are very different from Shinigami. From their physical form, to their powers, to even the way they thought. Yeah, they did have emotions, but all of those emotions were boiled down to “Eat as much as possible, when possible, however possible”. They had emotions, but instincts were much more plentiful and much more common in Hollows. Not that he would allow those facts to justify any undue harm against them. They were human after all, just misfortuned humans which needed to be helped. Though the way some of these hollows acted made him think some of them didn’t want help. Maybe some just found more joy in being a hollow. Takano would hold his head as a headache set in. “Taki, stop thinking so hard…”“You’re not wrong, Vayle. I enjoy my job a lot and it kinda sucks when we get a dud. Eh, I’ve been having fun so far so it’s not that big a deal” Takano gave her a confused look. “Er...Horror movie? I’ve heard of ‘Movies’ before but I’ve never managed to find out what they were. I guess we could go see one. It’s not like a fighting pit or anything, right?” During his research he saw plenty of signs for ‘Movies’, often they’d be depicting some sort of violence action to them. Fighting pits were really the only conclusion he could draw from what he’d seen. Vayle Cameo

Vayle studied Takano's face and turned slightly pink as he fell silent. "...Sorry. It's something I guess I think about a lot." She responded. "...Early in my life, before I became a shinigami, I ended up being involved in a hollow attack." She'd add with a slightly quieter look. "It was every bit the monster that people had described it as. I have no idea how it got into the Rukon." She'd note. "...It tried to kill one of my close friends, and I did my best to fight it off."
The shinigami chuckled. "...I didn't do too bad of a job for a plus who doesn't remember being in a fight in her life before that, but..." The girl shrugged. "It was kind of a silly creature, at the end of the day. Looked like a giant bear. But I never forgot the fact a death god rescued me, cutting it down with one blow. I also never forgot it's last words..."
"'I just wanted some Yakisoba'"
And at that, Vayle gave a quick chuckle. "...Hopefully, he got some once he was purified. But it made me wonder just how much human's left. If someone could still hold onto such a simple dream, just how much human can be left under a hollow's mask? It wasn't because it was something complex. It stuck with me because of how simple it was. It's the sort of sweet, simple request even a five year old could hang onto..."
Vayle shrugged. "And yet still maintain the lethal urge to kill and eat. It's something that never really left me, even after training in the academy. Hollows tend to draw strength from their emotions, with negative emotions feeding them and encouraging them to do yet more violent acts. They become more and more twisted the longer they live. And yet... Something that simple can survive the transformation. Thoughts of peace can survive even as an arrancar... if these feelings are so useless to a hollow, why do the peaceful ones stand above those who are a slave to them, in Las Noches?"
And at that, Vayle shrugged. "Sorry, I apologized about babbling and got babbling again." Vayle would say, before listening to the horror movie proposal. As she heard his question, she wrinkled her nose. "Absolutely not! I abhor that practice with a passion! It's more like..."
Vayle thought about it. "It's like when you record stuff on those computer screens in the 12th division, but instead of doing it to monitor an area, they produce a fictional narrative. Like a book made using those recordings."

“Typically Hollows will still have their memories. Might’ve just been trying to get you to hesitate before it was purified. Or, maybe you’re right. Maybe they are a bit more like us than I thought” Takano would shrug. “I never really had to deal with them at such a young age. I always read about them after my father’s Kido training, but never got to see one up close until becoming a full Shinigami” He’d glance down for a bit. “Never been to the Rukon either, I’m surprised a Hollow even managed to get into Soul Society. Hopefully it wasn’t some Aizen wannabe…” Takano gave a slight grin at how aghast Vayle was about the whole fighting pit thing. It was nice to know that she wasn’t some battle crazed fool, which seemed to be filling out the shinigami ranks lately. “So it’s like a recorded Theater play? Huh. That’s… smart. I’m surprised we haven’t started doing that in Soul Society” Takano would think for a bit. ‘Horror’ movie must be a theater play intending to scare you, but that seemed pretty weird. He’d never heard of any play managing to actually scare people. “Hm. Alright. Well, lead the way then. Can’t say I know where to watch one of these movies” He’d place a hand on his thigh, habitually checking to see if he had any cigarettes. The answer was still sadly: No. “But I’m going to make a stop for some cigs first. Make sure your Zanpakuto doesn’t set these ones on fire this time. Unless it’s to light it for me” He’d add with a grin. Vayle Cameo

Vayle shrugged. she'd heard the logic before. it wasn't completely wrong, by necessity. "and yet even you, a scientist who studies hollows, can't give me any definites on that kind of behavior. no one seems to be able to." Vayle would say with a shrug. "I've heard humans say that if one doesn't completely understand their enemy, they become subject to their whims. thus, in warfare, they always focus on finding out what motivates the enemy, how they think, why they think it... and through that, can control the flow of battle before it ever begins. I suppose that's my interest." Vayle would say. "...Well, at least, that's mwhere my professional interest is."
As Takano gave her asked if they could stop for cigarettes. "Sure. Luckily it's a long enough walk that you'll be able to smoke one. They don't tend to allow smoking in the movie theaters on account of the fact you're kinda hot-boxing an enclosed chamber." Vayle will note. "...and if there's even a slight chance of the smoke going into my lungs Mahoutsukai might be liable to fire a master spark all on her own." Vayle would add, referring to the rainbow-colored blast of hers that so resembled a cero, before starting to walk down the street. "well... let's get going!"

A Few Minutes Later… Takano would pop a cigarette into his mouth before lighting it up. He’d hold his hands behind his head as the two walked to the Movie Theater, giving a slight grin. “Why does your Zanpakuto hate smoking so much? I mean, mine does too, but she doesn’t blast my cigarettes into dust. Not like either of us are going to get sick from it or anything, we are ‘Death Gods’ afterall” Takano would remove his cigarette and exhale to his side, trying hard to keep it from hitting Vayle. It was something he was genuinely curious about. There seemed to be a strange amount of Anti-smoking Zanpakuto, to the point where Takano was beginning to think that all Zanpakuto were just a bunch of grouchy old people. Finally the two reached the Theater. Takano would take one more deep breath before putting out his cigarette and throwing it away. She did say they didn’t allow smoking because it was a “hot box” or something like that. Takano crossed his arms and looked at all the movies which were playing. Were they all horror movies? He’d glance to Vayle. “Well, feel free to choose whichever one. I don’t really know which one is a ‘Horror’ movie” “Taki, I don’t wanna watch one…”“Why?” “I’m scared…”“We haven’t even seen it yet” “But-”“If ya get too scared, we can leave, alright?” “Ok…”Vayle Cameo

Vayle smirked as Takano loudly complained about the lack of cigarette issues. "I've heard the 'shinigami don't get sick' line before, but..."
The woman shrugged. "The 11th division captain had some sort of lung condition. We've definitely got some basic needs to meet, and there's enough ocular degeneration in the shinigami ranks that we've got a whole bunch of people wearing glasses. That being said..."
Vayle watched Takano take another drag, and shrug. "...Maybe they know more than we do? Zanpakuto do tend to be born with a full knowledge base... or at least, that's what I've thought. Do we really know all that much about zanpakuto in this day and age, either?" Vayle would ask. "...Either way, it's not exactly unlike my mahoutsukai to be protective. Of course..."
Vayle shrugs. "Maybe your zanpakuto just thinks that if you don't have awful breath and smell good, people will like you more. I don't think that your lack of charm really comes from those problems, though." She'd add with a smile, seemingly oblivious to what an insult she'd just dropped on Takano. "So I guess I dunno."
"Alright, this one's a horror movie, I'm pretty sure! let's see, 'a psychotic, blue hedgehog works it's way through the streets of manhattan, killing everyone in it's path with abnormal speed, while the Dr. Edgar Mann works around the clock to find a way to neutralize the terror for good! Yep! I think that's the one we're going to!" Vayle would add with a chuckle. "I love these kinds of human movies! They're always hilarious!"
