Grassland Rumble (Vayle/Takano)

    “Taki-”

    “Not right now Chiyu, I think someone is about to get their leg broken…” Takano would lean forward a bit, looking at the new battle which had started. It was two 11th Division newbies. They lacked any finesse but certainly understood the basics of Zanjutsu. This one might be interesting…

    “But Taki-”

    “Chiyu, unless someone is about to die, I don’t-”

    Takano would slowly glance to his side at the Shinigami who had just walked head first into the rocky wall which he was leaning on. For a moment he thought she might crash from the impact, but no such thing happened. Though it sounded bad, it shouldn’t be too big of a deal. Concussions were a minor, fleeting injury to Shinigami. If only he could afford the same assurance with humans… Strangely, the girl gave an exasperated sigh before introducing herself as Vayle Cameo. The name sounded familiar. In fact, the girl seemed to give off some sort of strange...aura? Like something he had felt before, something which he had vested interest in- Wait, what was she asking?

    “A spar? Hm. Well, I can’t say I’m the best at fighting” He’d tap a finger on his Zanpakuto whilst thinking on it for a bit. Chiyu would chime in.

    “I don’t want to fight her...she looks weird…”

    Takano would give a slight grin at that one, turning back to Vayle. “Eh, sure. Barely passed the combat crap in the academy anyways, might as well get some training. You’d be surprised at how little the 12th Division actually spars” Popping off the rock once more, Takano would swifty hop down to one of the empty, squared off fields. He’d wait for Vayle to take her place before drawing Chiyu and pointing it at her.

    “Like I said, I’m not the best. More of a Kido dork than some Zanjutsu lunk. Lets not take this fight too seriously, ok?” Chiyu would begin to glow slightly.

    “Cry, Chiyu”

    Takano’s Zanpakuto would suddenly flash, extending itself until it formed into a Halberd. The blade of the Halberd would have slight lines across it, almost resembling wings. Takano would begin to spin the Halberd until a large golden disc formed in front of him. “Bakudo 39, Enkosen” After finishing the Kido barrier, Takano would hop into the air and fling the Halberd towards Vayle, before falling behind the barrier once more. Hopefully he didn’t throw it too hard.

    Well, this was an unexpected turn of events. Takano was telling the truth when he said he was unskilled at combat. While the attack he dealt did appear to be effective, it had plenty of issues. One of which being that it was far too slow to effectively strike the enemy Shinigami. Oh well, not as if-

    “Woah now!” Takano would shout as four blasts almost instantly shattered his Enkosen, one of the beams managing to break through and strike him in the shoulder. Takano would spin upon being being struck, catching himself and skidding across the ground on his knees. His shoulder would smoke slightly as he held a hand over it.

    “Bakudo-5, Kaido” A light green aura would shine over the wound, healing it enough to stop smoking. Even so, it was still decently burned. Something he would deal with later. “If you think I’m a good fighter, then that 20th seat you took down must’ve been a real chump…” He’d mutter with a wincing grin.

    “Taaaaki, you shouldn’t be-”

    Takano, ignoring Chiyu’s warnings, would rise and catch his Halberd as it unembedded itself from the ground. He would point it at Vayle. “Chiyukaze” A greyish aura would appear at the tip of the Halberd spear point. “Chiyu is a great judge of character. When I tell her to look at someone, she can usually tell me what their biggest weakness is. I usually use her to help with healing, but sometimes I use it in battle. Let’s see what she says about you…” Suddenly, the greyish aura would shifted to a bright yellow before bursting forth in an arching line. Though one might mistake it for electricity, it was simply a facsimile of the element which could deal the same effects. Chiyu had no mastery over the elements, she could however imitate them fairly well.

    Takano would stab the handle of his Zanpakuto into the ground as the explosive rain began. Her strikes seemed to be quite strong, no wonder she had an officer’s seat. The question was how long could she sustain such powerful strikes? She was strong for sure, but attacks like this had to be draining to her, especially since she seemed to be applying them so liberally. If he couldn’t beat her in a fight, perhaps he could hold her off, striking lightly in the hopes of taking her down when at her weakest. If not...Well, it’s just a spar.

    “Bakudo-10” Takano would mutter, surrounding himself in a light green barrier. It was flimsy, but there was no real reason to put up any major Barriers right now. Anything she could throw would break it, plus it’s not like she was trying to actually kill him. As the barrier began to crack from the surrounding explosives, Takano would swifty snatch his Halberd and point it at Vayle. “Chiyu doesn’t like fighting, or really being forced to hurt anything. Kind of ironic, but she’s not exactly the most sensible of Zanpakuto…” The greyish aura would once again surround the head of the Halberd. “Chiyukaze!” Another yellowish bolt of energy would emit, finishing off his barrier Kido in the process.

    Before Takano could react, one of the explosive black stars would impact the ground next to him, knocking him back and shredding a bit of his right sleeve. Underneath, various gashes from the shrapnell. Chiyu would pipe up as the young Shinigami caught himself.

    “Taki, you need to use Kaido…”

    She wasn’t wrong, his arm was already injured enough to warrant the Kido Spell. But if he was being honest, Takano had put a bit too much power into that last Chiyukaze and was feeling pretty drained. Maybe he should of just continued as a sideline medic instead of accepting the girl’s offer. Speaking of her…

    “Not right now Chiyu. What can you tell me about her?” He’d almost whisper.

    “I...don’t want to say…”

    Well, this wasn’t the first time this had happened. Usually when Chiyu saw something she didn’t like, she wouldn’t tell Takano about it. The only true drawback of having such an observant Zanpakuto. Whatever her weakness was, it had to be something dark...

“Taaaki, you said you were going to try and wait until she got tired…” Chiyu would whine as Takano held up his arms to defend himself from the incoming emerald blast. She was right, he got too confident with that last strike and deviated from his plan. Now, it was time to face the consequences. The green burst of energy had sheared whatever was left of his sleeves and even a bit of his main torso. He was beginning to this this wasn’t going to just be a spar, at least not if these kinds of injuries kept up. Third degree burns on his right arm, only second degree on his left. Nothing time and Kaido couldn’t solve.

As Takano ran forward to reunite with his Halberd, he would heal his right arm to the best of his ability. Upon reaching the weapon he would notice Vayle charging up another powerful attack. Even with all his foresight and careful thinking, one thing was for certain: If she kept this up she would take him down. No amount of thinking or planning could stop that. He had to keep putting on the pressure if he wanted to win this spar. Takano would slide, sweeping his halberd up off the ground and spinning it infront of him, forming a temporary barrier which he used to reflect the Cero to the side. Slowly, he would walk towards Vayle, continuing to keep the barrier up. Luckily it seemed anyone near the reflected blast had made a hasty escape, not wishing to get injured themselves. After getting within five feet of the girl, he would halt the spinning and slam his Halberd into the ground.

“CHIYUKYOUKAN!”

An aura of freezing light would burst out of the Halberd, so cold that one could see their breath. Though it was shortly lived, it was mainly directed towards Vayle, hopefully sapping her of the strength and dexterity which she seemed to rely so heavily on. If not? Well, he gave it his best. Though it will be annoying as hell to try and get a new robe...
