Slashes had gouged into Takano’s skin like blood filled valleys amongst war torn lands. He could not count the days which had passed, partially due to the pain and partially due to the various drugs he had been administered. But he found something strange, it seemed even Poppi’s best torture methods had their limits. Pain was no longer painful to the Shinigami. His body was simply numb at this point, as if he was a prisoner within a decaying husk. The demented torturer had managed to get all of the Hado Spells and up to Bakudo-5. But that was the extent of what she could get, as he had simply shut down. Whatever she did to him, whatever she tried, just felt like nothing. Takano would have laughed at her if he had the energy to do so. She had lost, he had won. The end.
Or so he thought. The encompassing darkness of the torture room was suddenly flooded with a bright flash of light. Takano shifted slightly, the chains being used to keep him held up rattling slightly. Takano shifted his eyes down towards the ground as Poppi entered. He wouldn’t give her the satisfaction of his gaze. Accompanying the short woman’s footsteps would be two more sets, at least that’s what he could tell. Suddenly the chains holding him up would loosen, causing him to fall to the ground in a weakened clump. He barely had the will left to shift himself around to look at Poppi. Two figures stood behind her, one a bit shorter than the wicked Torturer and both with bags over their faces. Poppi had a devious grin across her face.
“I was wondering if it was time, yet...” She’d kneel and grab Takano by the face. “Shinigami have a very high pain tolerance, physical torture doesn’t always end up working out well. But even with the tolerance it seems I managed to squeeze out quite a bit of information. How cute…” The woman stood and removed the bags from the two individual’s heads. One would be a small girl around ten. The other would be a fully grown woman. If Takano was a betting man he’d say they were related, maybe a mother and daughter. Poppi reached up on one of her counters and produced a serrated blade, throwing it on the ground at Takano. “I’m finished up with your physical torture. I got everything I wanted and more from it. Now we get to the real fun. Pick up that knife please” She’d say before pushing the woman over towards Takano. Poppi would remove another blade from the table, this time a Scalpel, before grabbing the child by the hair.
“Let's play a little game, Shinigami. It’s probably not a game you’ll be very good at, but that’s alright. Just do everything I say and you’ll be alright” Takano struggled to rise to his feet, wielding the blade as tightly as he could whilst edging over to Poppi. “Ah, ah, that’s not a part of the game~!” She’d say in a sing song voice, placing the scalpel to the girls throat. Takano hesitated before stepping back, narrowing his eyes at the woman. “All finished with your heroics? Wonderful. Trust me, by the end of this such petty acts will be the last thing on your mind” Poppi lowered the Scalpel.
“The first rule of my game, do everything I say. Simple enough? I’m going to tell you what to do with that knife. Think of it like painting, that woman right there is the canvas” Takano’s knuckles would begin to whiten from the grip he held on the knife. “Rule two, if you don’t do what I tell you to do, then I’ll do it to this sweet, cute, innocent little girl” The shinigami’s heart began to race. He didn’t have the strength to cast any Kido, nor did he have Chiyu to help him. He had to figure something out, look around, think of some miraculous plan to get through this. His knees would begin to weaken slightly as he felt more and more hopeless with every passing moment.
“Let’s begin. We’ll start simple. I want you to remove one of her ears. You got...five minutes! That seems fair enough to me” Takano stood, motionless. “Did you not hear me? Maybe it was a good thing I chose the ears, you seem like you need a new pair!” Poppi lifted the scalpel up to the little girls ear, pressing down and cutting about 1/4th down. The pained screams nearly made Takano go deaf. “That was a warning. Now get to work!” Takano looked down at the knife before looking back at the woman, who was balled up and crying. The shinigami’s eyes would well up with tears as he made his way over, one weakened step at a time.
The room smelled of blood, something Takano had grown quite used to at this point. The iron haze seemed to overpower all his senses. The Shinigami sat in the corner, averting his gaze from the bloody mess he had just made. The little girl, now missing an eye, was on a chair passed out. Poppi was humming, preparing something which Takano couldn’t see. The small woman made her way over to the Shinigami, placing a tray down at his side. On the tray was food and a drink. It had a strong odor, some sort of liquor. The woman placed a hand on the man’s face and moved him up. “That was… Beautiful. I had heard you were a healer, but you have such a natural talent with the blade… The precision… If I wanted you to, you could have kept her alive for so much longer…” The woman got a bit too close for comfort, but Takano couldn’t bring himself to move. “You’ll make for a wonderful assistant. I’ve already got the perfect plan for changing you. A sort of “On-Off” switch, mindless servant and near conscious plaything. I may even replace Bertrand with you…” Takano looked up, his blood coated face streaked with tears.
“I won’t break…”
Poppi leaned forward and gave Takano a sweet smile and a kiss. She’d pull back and look Takano in the eyes “Yes, you will. I’ve got many more games to play. Hm…” She’d stand and tap a finger on her chin. “Lady Arcadia never came up with a name for you. Tsk, such an inquisitive little kitten. How about… Aster. Aster Dianthus...Or maybe Hellebore? Hmm…”
