NAME: Kudlak Malpercius
RACE: Shinigami / Soul Reaper
AGE: 168 Years (Earth time)
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'4" , 216 Lbs.
APPEARANCE
Kudlak more resembles a street performer than an officer of Seireitei, strutting along in little besides his indigo loincloth and bladed vambraces. A vivid mane of wild purple hair cascades from his head, often drifting in the wind; there's a long braid tied down the back of his head that reaches between his shoulder blades, barely restraining his uncontrolled hair. From head to toe, he's very musclebound, and has a burly broad-shouldered build. A shiny, latex black thong barely envelops his nethers, ensuring he's somewhat decent even if a stray wind should blow his loincloth up. Oddly enough, this red-eyed man wears lavender eye-shadow and sometimes even dark purple lipstick! Coupled with some of the odd horn-like jewelry he wears, Kudlak is a sight of eerie, masculine glamour when in full makeup. He's rarely seen in proper uniform.
MOTIVATIONS
- Kido Mastery, beyond what any Soul Reaper has ever attained- Kudlak wishes to master ALL Kido!
- Shinigami Bigotry; Kudlak considers Soul Society to be the ultimate civilization, more important than any other people, and wants to exploit other worlds for the profit of Soul Reapers.
- Rampant Murder, as Kudlak more-or-less wishes to kill everyone using his mage-type Zanpakuto. He considers every other Shinigami to be his unwitting subordinate and all non-shinigami to be prey, pests or both.
- Narcissism: Kudlak is beyond megalomaniacal, full of vanity and self-love. He is however insecure and has an insatiable desire for worth, gain and merits to justify his ego.
- Hollow Genocide- meaning the complete eradication of all Hollowfied souls, including Vizards and Arrancar. Kudlak believes his purpose as a Shinigami is the indiscriminate killing of all Hollows without exception- including even Hollow-like souls...
QUIRKS
- Katsaridaphobia:
- Pseudogynephilia:
- Necromania:
- Extreme Cleanliness:
- Total Sadism:
- Misogyny: Similar to his pro-Seireitei bigotry, Kudlak is also a male chauvinist and anti-feminist. He considers women to be housekeepers, who's primary purpose is to be an asset to their spouse, but also generally sees females as inferior humanoids beneath himself. He's cold and callous towards even Soul Reaper women.
BONDS
- Zanpakuto - Chernobog: Kudlak's Zanpakuto spirit is named Chernobog, a terrifying house-sized amalgamate of fused human heads. Its skin is a sickly red color slick with a veneer of sticky ruddy-brown slime, and many nodule-covered flesh tendrils extend from it. This floating head-heap monstrosity appeals to Kudlak's narcissism by constantly praising its detestable master, and encourages him to always expand his ambitions- even to the point of hubris, glamour and folly... -especially when it's bad for Kudlak to be so brazen!
- Moriko Norehime (Ex-fiance): Very long ago, when Kudlak had only spent about ten years in Soul Society, he met and entered an arranged marriage with a minor noblewoman. But their relationship was complicated; a closeted lesbian, Moriko considered herself more a mentor to Kudlak than a lover, helping him learn the ways of Soul Society. But she herself fell in love with a female colleague and was slow to break the truth on Kudlak; he was left numb, shocked and insecure following the loss of his almost-marriage. Many of his worst quirks formed as he 'recovered' from her polite rejection, though it was because of this event that Kudlak began to express high levels of Reiryoku- enough to enter the Soul Reaper's academy. Although lamentable, the way Kudlak allowed this singular experience to twist his heart with wanton hatred is solely his own fault, and even now- he is only getting worse.
BACKSTORY
Born 1981 in Ozersk, Russia, the young Kudlak was born to a destitute family in the Soviet Union... -but, with the opening of the Mayak facility, Kudlak's father secured an unusually excellent job working in uranium enrichment and plutonium refining. Ozersk, or City 40, was closed-off from the rest of the Soviet Union and strictly monitored by the communist government. But inside, its citizens led a life similar to middle-class Americans, enjoying a low crime rate and a greater abundance of goods. Though seldom home- Kudlak's father made ample living, enough to support his sickly mother and maintain an apartment in one of the city's high-rises. There, Kudlak went to school, explored vocational training, and admired his father's work- ... but, in his mid teens, Kudlak's entire family died over a two-day span. Highly radioactive dust on Kudlak's father brought total death into their home and even the surrounding apartments, prompting the Ozersk administration to employ stricter controls and programs in order to prevent Uranium dust from getting stuck to or traveling with the factory's workers.
Although a normal boy in life, as a shed soul, Kudlak was horribly tormented by the awful way in which he had died: for two whole days, he spewed blood and shed his hair, until he died curled-up in the corner of his room in a pain-addled daze. He was not discovered quickly either; for 18 days, Kudlak suffered and recalled his memories of death, greatly lamenting how he had died. He pondered what he did to deserve it, or what he could have done to avoid his awful fate, but it was all futile. Worse, he could not bring himself to leave his now-quarantined home. Only after he had suffered for long was Kudlak discovered by a passing Soul Reaper... and, at the time, Kudlak was close to becoming a Demi-Hollow.
In Soul Society, Kudlak's life changed tremendously; he did not have the luck of being adopted into a family or taking on a name, so he made up his own- the very name he uses today, Kudlak Malpercius. The Konso ritual performed on his soul has stripped his knowledge of his former name... but it did not undo his underlying psychological damage and intense sense of wariness, self-preservation and insecurity. He scraped-by living in a poor district of Rukongai doing odd jobs, where he later met Moriko Norehime- his first love and ex-fiance, who almost brought him out of poverty and into Rukongai's higher society. In the aftermath of their breakup, Kudlak's personality changed greatly for the worse, but he also began to express a high amount of spiritual potential...
Kudlak was recruited into the academy by a passing Soul Reaper who sensed his energy- not because of his potential, which wasn't all that special, but mostly just because Kudlak was a poor man in poverty; the academy enabled him to escape a dingy life in Rukongai's slums, for which he was grateful. Kudlak studied intensely to avoid returning to the ghettos of lost souls- not because he was thankful, however, but now because he felt he deserved a good life. His desires and feelings of entitlement gradually increased through school as he passed exams and competed with other students, not always winning- but excelling enough to graduate the academy and enter the Kido Corps, where Kudlak would realize his destiny- to master all Kido and rule his fellow Soul Reapers!
For decades, Kudlak's unusual appetite for Kido-specific power drove him to study, train and experiment with many kinds of spells. He attained the first stage of his Zanpakuto's release- Chernobog, a terrible black book of evil knowledge that could twist Kido, turning every spell Kudlak cast into a spell of the Darkness element. With the power of corrupted Kido Kudlak became a fully-fledged member of the Kido Corps some 60 years into his life in Soul Society, but then came the Blood Sand War: the most delighted years of Kudlak's life! Acting as an agent of Soul Society, Kudlak volunteered to go with several small squads of other Soul Reapers to assist the Arrancars in killing Hollows... but Kudlak's condemnation of Hollowkind was complete and pure; he murdered many near-death Arrancar found after skirmishes, slaying them and their Hollow enemies whenever he could get away with it. He barely restrained his evil nature enough that his crimes were never discovered- he'd left no witnesses, though some suspected him for always being near the no-survivors battles.
Kudlak's suspicious conduct during the Blood Sand war was noticed by his peers and reported to Seireitei; he simply enjoyed killing too much, enacting tremendous schemes and working tirelessly just to blast Hollows to bits and pieces. Worse, even other Soul Reapers suspected Kudlak was finishing off injured Arrancars, and indeed reported their suspicions too... while he remained active duty until the war's end, Kudlak was imprisoned in the Maggot's Nest for twenty years after the conflict's end. He was intensely examined by wardens and prison-keepers who wished to fully gauge the threat he could pose to Soul Society- and as a result, decades of Kudlak's life were wasted in imprisonment.
But those twenty years Kudlak spent in prison did not torment nor weaken him: during the Blood Sand war, he had almost perfected most of his Kido techniques, developing a strong bond with his evil-minded Zanpakuto's wicked spirit. He relived his memories and constantly wrote-down his knowledge of spellcraft and beyond that, his kido theories, developing even more Soul Reaper magic for his own use- though, to use it, he had to get free. But he was already vain enough he was sure Soul Society would release him from prison for sheer need of his powers...
And yet, in a cruel twist of fate, Kudlak was indeed released from prison: with the rise of the Shadow Collective, suspicions surrounding Xtraction and the rapid increase of Vizards in Soul Society, Kudlak was freed from the Maggot's Nest for a simple reason... although a psychopath, he was certainly a patriot, and posed the most threat to Soul Society's enemies. Still, he was not rewarded for his service in the Blood Sand war and so returned as an unranked member of the Kido Corps, where he remains today: patient, bitter and ever scheming. It was expected Kudlak would be violently angry with not having been promoted, but... in truth, what drove him now was a new and disturbing ambition, kept strictly secret-
-he now planned to kill the Captain Commander himself and remake Soul Society as a radical, Hollow-killing empire of savage power!
CALL TO ACTION: In his wild hubris, Kudlak 'realized' he could potentially become Captain Commander simply by killing Shunsui Kyōraku for their rank. And if he did... he could potentially usurp the entire government, stretching his powers to remake Soul Society as a radical genociding empire bent on the eradication of Hollowkind. He now truly believes he deserves to be Captain Commander- more than anyone! To these ends, Kudlak desperately wants to master Kido beyond what any Shinigami has managed before, for only by obtaining truly exceptional talent can he seize the status he 'deserves', and he's more willing to kill or cheat than ever to do it.
STARTING BUILD
FIGHTING STYLE
Kudlak wields Chernobog, an evil mage-type Zanpakuto imbued in the Darkness element. It looks like a short steel bookmarker when unreleased, almost useless as a sword, but when transformed into a grimoire the book has vast power over Kido. Any Kido spell that Kudlak casts is corrupted, converting it to the Darkness element and changing the appearance of the spell in lieu of this change. Most of all, Chernobog frees Kudlak from reciting incantations or even spell names at all, and if he should do it anyway all incantations or spell names spoken are completely garbled as distorted, disturbing whispers.
