MOTIVATIONS:
Find an alternative means to satisfied his hunger: Karl does not mind feeding off the souls of humanity, but he would like to find other alternatives to satiate his hunger in case something might happen to humanity. Also, Karl believes if he could find an alternate food source for his race then perhaps other species wouldn't feel threatened by his kind.
To become stronger: Since he joined the shadow collective and meet some of their more prominent members Karl had gained another goal in life. Which is to become stronger than them.

Ambitious: He wants to succeed in life and is willing to do almost anything to achieve his dreams.
Courteous: Karl is a gentleman at heart and is always polite and well mannered. Karl treats all living beings with respect and kindness.

BACKSTORY:
Born in the fifteenth century in northeastern Germany. Karl was the only child of two dirt farmers, serving under an abusive Duke of the crown. Life was hard for him and his family under the brutal tyrant, but somehow they managed to scrape by. When Karl turned of age, he was forced to join the local King's Army, during a mass rebellion throughout Germany. It was during his time in the King's army Karl bounto heritage began to manifest itself. At first, it was barely noticeable to him. Going a couple of days without food or water and not sleeping for a couple of nights. Small stuff you can write off as the jitters of war, but as time went on other complications started to arise and it wasn't long before others around the barracks started to take notice of Karl's unique condition. Luckily for him, Karl was relieved of duty before anybody could ask him questions.
Once, he was released from active duty the bounto came up with the plan to live with his parents in order to take care of them with the money he had made while in the army. When he arrived home, Karl was shocked to find his parent's lifeless bodies laying on the ground, and two-men seemingly robbing his there home. In a fit of rage, Karl killed the two murders and consumed their souls afterward. Eventually, he buried his parents and began wandering the world.
In the sixteenth century, Karl meets another bounto and his future mentor Frau Sunde. Frau trained Karl in the way of the bounto and how to use his doll and bounto gifts properly and as the time went on the pair grew very close to each other. The two of them went on many adventures throughout Europe and Asia, however, sometime in the eighteenth century, the two of them separated and went there separate ways. Afterward, Karl just traveled around as a mercenary fighting in human conflicts before being asked to join the shadow collective by his good friend Frau Sunde. After passing a few tests by the organization Karl was able to formally join the group as an enforcer.
