The moon sat high in the night sky as the air grew frigid. Takano sat against a tree, the same he had been sitting next to after getting utterly defeated by Estrella. He’d would’ve tried moving if he could, but the healing which Chiyu was performing on him require near absolute stillness. To ensure he didn’t move, Chiyu had paralyzed his limbs. Though Shinigami could get Hypothermia and other such medical issues, it quite a lot more than normal humans. That being said, being drenched from the previous downpour was certainly effective at chilling him. The bount which Takano had named “Sori” had left a few minutes ago for some reason. She was a curious person, completely silent but quite curious. Whether the silence was by choice or not, he couldn’t tell. Takano leaned his head against the tree and closed his eyes, bracing for a gust of wind.
“Taki…?”
“Y-yeah, Chiyu?” Takano would say through gritted teeth.
“I’m cold…”
Takano gave a slight laugh. “You and me both”
“Why’d you have to get crippled in a forest…”
“Well, it could be worse, there could be a hollow too”
“Stop saying that…”
Takano would start to laugh, stopping as he felt a sting in his chest. If he was being honest, he was just happy to be alive. For all the pomp and talk of honor or duty that Takano talked about, deep down he didn’t believe it. Takano didn’t want to die, he didn’t want to give up his life for others. But it was something he had to do. Everyone looked at Hollows as monsters, same with bounts and so many other misfortuned people. It wasn’t their fault they were that way. Why should they be punished for it? Who else would step up to protect them when they needed help?
“Taki, don’t laugh, it makes it hard to heal…”
“Then stop making me laugh”
“Then stop laughing at me…”
Takano started to chuckle.
“Stoooop…”
Takano would shift slightly, as much as one could with paralyzed arms and legs. “You think she got bored and left?” He asked with regards to Sori. “She just kind of sat there for a while… Maybe she thought I was going to die or something…” Takano would look down. “It wouldn’t surprise me to be honest. Kinda deserve it with out I handled things. I went in far too confident…” Takano would manage to clench his fist through the paralyzation. “Stupid…”
“Taki… Please stop…”
“Sorry. Didn't mean to move so much. Just gets a bit uncomfortable ya know?”
“I didn’t mean that… Stop being mean to yourself…”
“Heh. Why? I was stupid, nothing to argue about. I ran in there like I owned the place and just ended up making a fool of myself. I’m not a fighter… Why the hell did I even become a Shinigami? I should’ve just joined the Kido Corps or stayed with my family…”
“Then we wouldn’t of met…”
Takano paused. “I...uh, yeah. You’re right. We wouldn’t of met…”
“Sori would’ve died… No one would’ve given their soul to save a bount…”
“Huh. I guess you’re right again…” Takano glanced up at the sky and gave a slight grin. “I did save a couple people. That’s gotta count for something I guess”
As Takano continued to think on Chiyu’s words, a familiar figure would come out of the brush. It was Sori, carrying a large bag. She’d set the bag on the ground and opened it up. Slowly she’d remove different supplies, Blankets, food, drinks, and other items. Takano glanced over at her surprised. “Guess that makes us even, eh?” He’d jest as she draped a blanket over him. It was more than welcome as another gust of wind came through the silent forest. The bount would look over to him and give a slight grin, something he hadn’t seen her do before. Usually she just stared about with vacant eyes.
“You gave me your soul… I can’t repay that” She’d almost whisper to him. Takano raised his eyebrows.
“Wait...you can actually talk?”
She’d nod
“Then could you tell me your real name?”
She’d pause for a moment, reaching into the pack for a fire starting kit. “It's Sori now, bit of a weird name though…”
Takano sighed in defeat. “Why does everyone always agree with Chiyu…” He’d mutter as the fire started. “Well, what are you planning on doing after this?” Takano would ask the girl. She’d shrug as she took out a pan. “Don’t tell me you’re going to do that silent crap again. It doesn’t work on me anymore, I know you can talk now!” Sori would just give a grin. “Fine. Be that way. See if I care…”
“You do care…”
